Day 65: 4 more months of braces!

"Double double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble..."
Happy almost Halloween! Love this upcoming holiday :) Not sure what I'm going to be yet... but I will make sure to post a photo of my costume!
It's been a few weeks since I last posted... so here are some new photos that were taken last week and a friend's engagement party:
Eating has been amazing! I can basically eat everything now (except I still stay away from anything really hard just in case (and also to be mindful of breaking a bracket). You don't realise how essential eating nutritional food is to your mental and physical health until your not able to do it! Geez... I've learned from this whole adventure that I can never have an eating disorder, I would go CrAzY :). Plus I love eating wayyyy to much.
Little progress to report. There is more sensation in my numb parts (upper left lip, middle bottom lip and chin). I have been able to feel hot/cold in those areas and sometimes I feel little prickly feelings.
I've been able to gain some weight back - which as I just mentioned makes me feel so much more healthy and sane. I've also been going back to the gym! I went twice this week! I'm hoping to go 2-3 times this upcoming week and weight train for the first time since pre-op.
As you've seen in the title of this post - I have approx. 4 months left of these metal things on my teeth! I CANNOT WAIT!!!!! I guess that means I need to start saving up for teeth whitening :).
I promised a video a while back, but I haven't gotten around to making one. I will try my best this week or next!
I hope everyone has an awesome Halloween!!!
Alexis

  3. Alexis,

Did you notice much change in your nose? I think we have similar, thin face shapes, and I am worried about my nose getting really wide and not looking right!

  4. @BracedFaced - thank you! It really does feel like it went by quickly. I can't beleive I have so little time left (fingers crossed!)

@Brent - thank you too :)I look forward to reading updates about your surgery once it's near. I know you'll do great!

@Dani - I did notice a difference in my nose. It actually became straighter when they pushed my top jaw forward. YEY! Also, I did notice the width changed a bit... but it looks natural and nobody has noticed except for me. I hope that helps!

  5. hi ! I found your blog through trying to google to find more info on the Le Fort I osteotomy. I was wondering...how much did you insurance pay for?
    Thanks for posting!

  6. Alexis, I found your site through Dani's and I wanted to stop in to introduce myself and say hi. Your site has been very insightful, and I'm enjoying reading it!

Your post-surgery pics are amazing!! Just curious, how much movement did you have on your upper/lower jaws? Did they only impact the upper or also move it forward? And what about the genio - this is my biggest concern. I have seen a lot of people on here who end up not doing the genio and they were happy with that. I'd like to find out from those who had the genio - how was the decision made to do it, how much movement did you have and if there is anything you would do differently if you could.

Your results are so natural! Congratulations and I hope your recover continues to go smoothly. Do you still have any swelling and is it noticeable?

    Thanks for answering my questions!!

  7. Hi, I found your site via google,as I'm sure most did. I recently had a type of jaw surgery called a distraction osteogenesis in which I "regrew" bone. Aside from that, I still have to have a Lefort I Osteotomy and genioplasty like you. My surgery is Dec. 15th. I am a college student and I was wondering how long it took before you got somewhat back to normal and able to do things (in my case school and work)? Also, with genio, was that a big ordeal, or no? My surgeon (world-renowned) has said that its a rather minor procedure.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your stuff and watching some youtube videos. It's always very helpful to see others like you.

    Thanks! Hope

  9. @prpltrmpt - my insurance didn't pay for much. Only about 1/6 of the actual cost. Sucky!

@Tara - in my upper jaw i had a few mm of movement both forward and upwards. I had did not have any surgery on the lower jaw besides the genioplasty. I love what the genio did to my profile! I never really had a chin before and now I do! My surgeon ensured that it wasnt moved out too much and therefore dont have a "witches" chin as he put it. ha! The choice for me was always a yes for the genio... my recessive jaw was one of my biggest annoyances with my face. I think it was moved forward a few mm as well. I think I wrote how far in a blog post early on after the surgery. I'll try to find it. Also there is pretty much no swelling anymore. Sometimes I feel a bit puffy in the morning, but it goes away before I get to work. I'm excited for your adventure!

@Hope - I hope your surgery went well! I wish I had seen this comment earlier and got back to you beforehand. I hope your happy with your results. I got back to work after 3 weeks and I was well recovered by that time. As long as you rest and take care of yourself post surgery, you'll be back on your feet within no time!

    @Catherine - thank you :)
